Discovery Land Company – Engineering Intern

Role: Engineering Intern (Summer 2025)

I interned with Discovery Land Company in Austin, TX, contributing to the development of a first of its kind surf pool and luxury residential community. Working directly on the owner's side, I gained experience across engineering coordination, fieldwork, and technical design.
I began by walking the job site alongside superintendents and general contractors to ensure construction activity matched plans and expectations. As I became more familiar with the site and processes, I earned the trust to conduct these walks independently—identifying issues, verifying progress, and communicating directly with contractors to resolve problems in real time.
In addition to fieldwork, I managed contractor payment logs, inspection records, and construction cost spreadsheets, and documented key decisions from meetings. I performed material takeoffs by cross-referencing updated civil site plans and change orders, using Bluebeam to confirm scope and quantities.
One of my most technical contributions involved designing a custom HDPE waterstop flange and adapter in SolidWorks. After multiple revisions, the drawing was approved and stamped by two licensed professional engineers, then sent to fabrication and ultimately installed in the wave pool basin.
I also communicated directly with vendors and manufacturers to place, track, and follow up on orders, and assisted in monitoring pier development progress and resolving issues on-site.

Kant-Twist Clamp – CAD Design Project

Role: CAD Group Member (Fall 2024)

In this academic project, I collaborated with a team to design a detailed 3D model of a Kant-Twist clamp using SolidWorks. I was responsible for modeling key components, ensuring proper fits and tolerances, and assembling the full mechanism. The project emphasized precision, design intent, and the importance of adhering to technical drawing standards in a collaborative engineering environment.

Drive Safe – Capstone Project

Role: Founder & Project Lead (2021 - 2023)

Drive Safe is a capstone initiative I founded to address e-waste, data security, and digital access in underserved communities. I established partnerships with local organizations—including Keck Observatory, Surf Camp, and Big Island Tech—to collect broken or unused computers from families and businesses across the island.
The project had two main goals: (A) securely dispose of electronics to reduce landfill waste and data theft, and (B) repair and redistribute devices to individuals without access to technology. I led all aspects of the project—from organizing outreach and donor relations to training student volunteers in basic computer repair, such as hard drive removal, battery replacement, and screen swaps.
We ensured all devices were handled responsibly by either securely destroying data or recovering it for return to the original owners. By the end of the project, we had refurbished and donated over 100 working computers to families in need, with several reaching as far as the Philippines.
